Reps. Omar and Tlaib Think US is Always Wrong

Recently, Israel barred Congresswomen Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib from entering the country citing their support for the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel, one which even the Democrat-controlled US Congress voted down in bi-partisan fashion by a margin of 398-17. A few days later, Israel granted a humanitarian exception to Ms. Tlaib and allowed entry so she could visit her grandmother. Tlaib declined the offer and instead held a press conference where she shed tears and falsely claimed that Israel barred her from visiting her grandmother. She promptly followed up her tear-filled claim with a fundraising letter.

Omar and Tlaib have constantly hidden behind their skin color, national origin, religion and gender while refusing to accept responsibility for their poor judgment, irresponsible remarks, and questionable alliances. This time Omar and Tlaib attempted to hide behind their special status as members of Congress. They could have easily visited Israel with 41 of their Democrat colleagues led by Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, who took the trip earlier this month. Instead, they opted for a trip sponsored by Miftah, a pro-Palestinian group that supports suicide bombers and spreads false claims that Jews used the blood of Christians in the Jewish Passover, according to New York Times columnist Bari Weiss. The Congresswomen’s official agenda called it a “U.S. Congressional Delegation to Palestine”. Ms. Tlaib has a world map in her office with a post-it “Palestine” that has an arrow pointing to Israel on the map.

Anti-American remarks and actions by Omar and Tlaib are innumerous. In 2017, Omar took a trip to Honduras sponsored by the pro-Communist, anti-American group Witness for Peace. She subscribes to the Marxist view of the cold war, which makes America the villain. Then there is Omar’s reference to the attacks of 9/11 as “some people did something”. Neither Omar, nor Tlaib have condemned the terrorist organization Hamas or those in the middle east who burn American flags and chant “Death to America”. Just this month, Tlaib spoke to reporters where she said, “MY city of Beit Ur al-Fauqa is so excited”. She tweeted about “the love for MY city” referring to a city in the middle east. I thought she was from Michigan…

One final point: In 2016, I was invited to meet with a delegation of Israeli parliamentary staffers. During the conversation, I started responding to one of their questions with, “America is the greatest country in the world…” when I realized that my audience may feel that their country, Israel, is just as great. I tried to be mindful to their sensitivities, so I continued with, “I recognize you may feel that Israel….” but I never had the chance to finish my sentence. “Sam, we love Israel but America is the greatest country in the world”, said one of the members of the delegation. Somehow, America’s greatness, acknowledged by many around the world, seems to have eluded Omar and Tlaib, and their allies. The protestors in Hong Kong, all of whom are Chinese citizens, waved the American flag and sang our national anthem many times during their recent protest. America is, and has been, the beacon of freedom in the modern world, yet, these two Congresswomen somehow have a tough time acknowledging it. This great country took Omar, a Somali refugee from a Kenyan refugee camp, granted her citizenship, and sent her to the hallowed halls of Congress. All we ask for, is a little gratitude. Apparently, that is too much to ask.
